Bass Pro Shops opened its Brandon Florida location this week and immediately began drawing enough customers to overflow the millions of dollars spent in road improvement by Hillsborough County to lure them to the county. I’m glad to see them come.
I have not actually set foot in the new store yet. I’ll wait for the deprived to get their fill before I venture in. I’m glad to see another outlet for firearms and ammunition sales in the area. The Tampa Bay area has only in recent months seen the supply and price of ammunition return to where you can readily find center fire target ammunition at the usual sources.
.22LR is still mostly missing. At least the one’s I like to shoot. I have been able to purchase enough CCI Standard and Mini-Mag from Empire Gun and Pawn to supply several classes. The Dick’s Sporting Goods in Wesley Chapel and Brandon are still thin on .22LR. The Shoot Straight on US 301 has had a German brand for months. Let’s see if Bass Pro can keep it in stock.
The new Bass Pro Shop and the Dicks Sporting Goods at the Westfield Brandon Mall are only a mile or so apart. But because they are separated by Interstate 75, they are several driving miles apart. A few miles up US 301 is a Shoot Straight location with a full firearms selection and a gun range.
Further up 301 and west on Fowler is the Indoor Shooting Company range. A mile north and several miles west on Fletcher Ave, west of I-275 is Shooter’s World. A full selection gun store and gun range.
If you hop on I-275 North and drive into Pasco County exit Hwy 54 West you will find the Grove shopping center with the Wesley Chapel Dick’s Sporting Goods. Dick’s does not carry handguns, but like the Dick’s in Brandon, they have a selection of long guns and ammunition. Head west on Hwy 54 and you will find Empire Gun and Pawn. They carry new and used firearms and ammunition. Heading further west on 54 and then south on US 41 for a mile you come to a Pasco County Wal Mart. You’ll find long guns and ammunition.
Now head over to Dale Mabry HWY from Wal Mart and then head south to just south of Waters you will find Shooting Sports. It is a gun range with gun sales. If you head south to Hillsborough Ave ( Hwy 92) and then West past Tampa International Airport, through Town ‘N’ Country to Gander Mountain.
That is a quick tour of some, but certainly not all of the venues selling firearms and ammunition in and around Tampa Florida. Can the residents of this area agree that there are sources for ammunition and that we don’t need to hoard? How many years will it take you to use up the ammo you have? One year, five years, one zombie apocalypse, one end of the world order? Keep in mind that America’s number one gun salesman will be leaving office on January 20, 2017.
